Manor resident and playwright Barbara Dubin keeps her vocabulary sharp with a daily crossword puzzle, 7/11/11
As you may know, Rose Schnitzer Manor’s Older But Wiser Writing Group will be debuting its members’ one-act plays this coming Sunday (see event information below). The event will hold special importance for one resident: playwriting helped Barbara Dubin find her voice.
Barbara Dubin used to write grants and journalistic articles. She said those forms require the writer to remain impartial and refrain from inserting any personal opinions, comments, or subjective language.
“I used to have to take myself out of my writing,” Barbara said. “With playwriting, I can put myself in it.”
The Group’s leader and long-time Manor volunteer Eddy Shuldman confirmed Barbara’s progress. “She started feeling good about writing plays. She found her voice as a playwright.”
The Older But Wiser Writing Group has also allowed Barbara to learn new skills.
She said, “As you get older, it isn’t enough to do what you used to do. You need to learn something new, do things you never did before. Playwriting did that for me.”
Join us for Barbara’s and other playwrights’ debuts!
