As we recently advertised, next Thursday, December 22, 2011, the Rose Schnitzer Manor Theatrical Group will perform “Fiddler on the Roof”. Resident Evelyn Hirsch, the brain child behind the event, adapted the story and music to the original musical score.
“It’s a comedy about 85-year olds moving to Rose Schnitzer Manor,” Evelyn said. “Everyone is welcome to come see it.”
The Theatrical Group for “Fiddler on the Roof” comprises 12 people, including Manor Marketing Director Deborah Elliott, who will play the granddaughter in the 45-minute musical. Resident Margie Spector will play the piano and resident Hy Friedman the violin.
“Our combined age is 1,000 years,” Evelyn said. “It’s a good group of actors.”
This is the Group’s second play. In July 2010, they presented Evelyn’s adaptation of “The Town Crier” titled “The Town Schreier”, which Evelyn described as “a comedy about a crazy Jewish family”.
As a member of Eddy Shuldman’s writing group, last summer Evelyn also wrote a one-act comedy play which a group of professional actors performed in SE Portland. If “Fiddler” goes well, Evelyn intends to write another play and pledged to help put on one show a month at the Manor.
She said, “I’ll be happy to see a smile on people’s faces.”
